A perfect day…

Excerpt from the sequel novel,  “A Friend Request, “ by C. L. Gillmore

Jake begins the chat with Rose as they share their day with one another in Facebook messages…

“Nothing much here. One of my little students stuck a bean up his nose today. I had to call the nurse for an extraction.”

“Messy. Where’d he get the bean?”

“We were counting with them during Math.”

“Ah-h-h. Moved right from addition to subtraction, huh?”

“Yes. Exactly. If Carlos has 5 beans and sticks one up his nose…how many beans does he have left?”

“Way to think on your feet.”

“It’s a gift.”

“It is. I wanted to say it’s SNOT funny, but I didn’t.”

“Thanks. Glad you held back.”

“How was your day?”

My shitty day—the flat tire on the bus in the mud, the verbal battle at lunch with Beth over Brian’s new girl friend and a puking dog—seemed a distant memory once Rose and I began chatting.

I pictured her at home, in her jeans and t-shirt, sitting in the living room with her laptop. All I wanted was to pop some corn, curl up next to her on the couch and watch a movie. I wanted to be close to her. I wanted to see her smile. I wanted to hear her voice.

How was my day? I typed back.

“Perfect. Great day.”

“Good to know.”
