Slip Sliding Away

None of us will pass this way again. What we see and feel and say today are gone forever. We have so much to regret when we let things slip away, unnoticed or unappreciated. “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing…”  –  Helen Keller

I knew we both wished there was some way to change things, to go back, to start over. But there wasn’t a way and we both knew that.  No matter how much we longed for things to have turned out differently these were just hopes and dreams whose time had long passed.

I finished typing that last sentence and just sat there looking into the monitor at Jake’s name.  There’s no way for anyone to buy time, no matter how rich or powerful a person is, each of us is given a certain amount in our lifetime to use.  Jake and I had used most of our time with someone else.  We both knew it was too late for us, for our hopes our dreams. Even in the fantasy world that I could create, there was no solution for Jake and me.  It was what it was.  We would continue to enjoy each other’s company through our words on the damn chat line or maybe texting on our phones and that would be all we would ever have together.  And somehow, we both seemed resolved to this fate.  If that was all we had then we would make the most and best of it.
