I love when a plan comes together

Excerpt from Chapter  5, “A Friend Request,” by C L Gillmore

With a little help from our friends, Jake and I were full of pizza and stoned. We were mellow, happy and neither of us could stop smiling. And for me, everything Jake said or did was amplified. Oh, my…was it amplified. He brushed his lips softly back and forth against the side of my cheek and whispered in my ear, “Want to stay here tonight on the chaise lounge or borrow a couple of sleeping bags and try out the new fireplace?”

I smiled, turned my head toward his lips, his voice and closed my eyes. I pictured the two of us cuddled up in the sleeping bags in front of the glowing fireplace, wrapped in one anothers arms. Naked.

Naked? Where did that come from? Did I care? No. I didn’t.

“I don’t have any firewood, Jake…but I have a bag of marshmallows.”

Jake continued to brush the side of my face with his lips. “Firewood is no problem. I’m a thief.”

He placed a soft kiss on my earlobe, tugging on it just a bit with his lips. “And I love marshmallows, especially hot, sticky toasted ones.”

Another kiss on my cheek.

“So, is that a ‘yes,’ Rose?”

Oh, my God! Dear Jesus, help us all!

I looked into his heavy-lidded, blue eyes and answered, “Yes, Jake. Yes.”

He kissed the tip of my nose. “Okay then, Rose. We have a plan.”

He kissed my lips, my cheek and continued on toward my ear again as we finished the conversation.

“Jake?”

“What.”

“I love when a plan comes together.”
