“Tenderloins and Truckstops”…an excerpt from the sequel novel to Uncommon Bond by C. L. Gillmore

Tonight I met Jake. Jake Richardson. I barely know him and yet I feel comfortable with him. He’s cute. He’s funny. He’s gentle. I like his voice. Jake, Jerry, Max, Karen and I went to Dixie’s Truck Stop afterward. I sat next to Jake. Our shoulders touched. We talked about tenderloins and mustard. I… don’t really think we were talking about tenderloins or mustard though. I want him to hold me. When I look at his lips I want him to kiss me. He makes me ache deep inside.

I like the words to this song the band played tonight—“Reach Out” by the Four Tops.

Now if you feel that you can’t go on
Because all of your hope is gone
And your life is filled with much confusion
Until happiness is just an illusion
And your world around is crumbling down.
Darlin, reach out, come on girl, reach on out for me.
Reach out reach out for me.
I’ll be there with a love that will shelter you.
I’ll be there with a love that will see you through.

I would learn over time this was part of Jake. I could trust him. Would trust him. He would figure out ways to quietly make things happen…good things…beautiful things. And he would make them happen for me. Things I would never forget.
